Recurrence of Varicose Veins

Play Video about Recurrence of Varicose Veins Explanation By Dr. Saurabh Joshi at The Vein Center, Mumbai

Varicose veins can sometimes recur after they have been treated, meaning they come back or new ones develop after a previous treatment.

Recurrence of Varicose Veins can occur for several reasons, including inadequate treatment of the underlying vein disease, damage to the treated vein, or the development of new varicose veins due to the natural aging process or other factors.

Factors that can increase the risk of varicose vein recurrence include genetics, pregnancy, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle. In some cases, lifestyle modifications such as regular exercise, weight loss, and wearing compression stockings may help prevent the recurrence of varicose veins.

If varicose veins do recur, it's important to seek the advice of a qualified vein specialist,

who can perform a thorough evaluation and determine the most appropriate treatment plan. Depending on the extent and severity of the recurrence, treatment options may include a repeat of the previous treatment or a different approach such as foam sclerotherapy or VenaSeal or ambulatory phlebectomy.

Regular follow-up appointments with a vein specialist are also recommended to monitor the condition and prevent future recurrence of varicose veins.

Redo Varicose Veins Treatment

Redo varicose treatment refers to a secondary procedure performed to address recurrent or persistent varicose veins after a previous treatment has failed. But in our findings, the choice of initial treatment plays an important role in recurrence which leads to redo treatments. 80% of patients came to The Vein Center for redo procedures were done Laser Ablation procedure or Vein Stripping at least once. These procedures are actually outdated when comparing to the most modern treatments like VenaSeal Closure system.

Then why people choose Laser or Stripping over VenaSeal? The most common answer we hear from redo patients was “the cost”.  Laser Ablation procedures are very common nowadays, stripping is way outdated but still very common in government hospitals and both of them are available at very cheap rate.

The second most common answer for the question is “we didn’t know about VenaSeal”. Only a handy of vascular interventional radiologist in India has the knowledge, skill, and experience to perform VenaSeal Closure System Treatment properly. It is our pleasure to remind you that, The Vein Center, Mumbai and Dr. Saurabh Joshi are the Pioneers of VenaSeal treatment in India. We introduced this treatment in 2018 for the first time in India.

If a previous treatment, such as endo venous laser ablation or vein stripping, did not effectively treat the varicose veins, redo treatment may be necessary. The procedure may involve a different approach may be used based on the individual’s specific case and underlying condition.

Commonly,  the success rate of redo varicose treatment may be lower than that of the initial treatment, and the risk of complications may be higher. But our qualified vein specialists are capable of providing the best treatment and fixing the mistake of others.

Choose VenaSeal, Avoid Recurrence

VenaSeal is a minimally invasive treatment option for varicose veins that uses a medical adhesive to seal the affected veins, preventing the backward flow of blood and reducing symptoms such as pain and swelling. While no treatment can completely guarantee the prevention of varicose vein recurrence, VenaSeal may offer some benefits in terms of reducing the risk of recurrence.

One advantage of VenaSeal is that it does not involve the use of heat or energy, which can cause damage to surrounding tissues and increase the risk of complications. This makes it a safe and effective option for many patients, including those who may not be good candidates for other treatments such as thermal ablation.

Additionally, VenaSeal has been shown in clinical studies to have a low incidence of complications and a high rate of patient satisfaction. While the long-term results of VenaSeal are still being studied, but our studies and  evidence suggests that the treatment offers a durable and effective solution for varicose veins.

FROM 2008

Vein Stripping

From 2008 to 2012, we were following the traditional vein stripping method to treat the varicose veins. Disadvantage of vein stripping is that it is an invasive procedure that requires general anaesthesia, which can increase the risk of complications. The procedure can cause scarring, pain, and a longer recovery period compared to other minimally invasive treatments.

FROM 2012

Endo Venous Laser Ablation

From 2012 to first half of 2018, we have opted the Endo Venous Laser Ablation procedure to treat Varicose Veins. We have successfully treated thousands varicose veins patients with Laser procedures. Due to the nature Laser Ablation which is thermal, there were many cases of recurrent Varicose Veins. Later we have treated all of them successfully with VenaSeal procedure.

FROM 2018

VenaSeal Closure System

From the second half of 2018 to present we are treating the varicose veins patients with VenaSeal Closure System procedures. Compared to Laser Ablation we can openly say that “VenaSeal is the Most Modern and Effective treatment for Varicose Veins and Venous Ulcers in the current time”. We have received many appreciation and recognition at International level for the innovative  and self made treatment protocols we developed with VenaSeal Closure System.
